COURSE INTRODUCTION POSTING

Welcome Lighthouse CPA Government Students !

Here we go ! I am looking forward to really getting started next week ! As for today , I will start with a brief reminder of the purpose of this blog .

This blog is a complementary resource to the class web site  (  www.quia.com/pages/jchristman38/page3.html  ) and your use of it will be critically important to being successful with each chapter’s Critical Thinking Exam ( CTE ) ( 30 % of your grade ) .

At the beginning of each chapter I will post the potential Critical Thinking Questions ( CTQ s ) to the blog for your consideration . The CTQs are very similar to , and some actually are , real AP free response questions . The real AP free response questions , appearing on our CTEs and core chapter exams , will have an ( * ) at the start of the question .

Since the actual questions on the chapter CTE will come from these questions you will want to study these closely , pay attention to the concepts that relate to these when they are covered in class , and ask questions to make sure that you understand  . How easy is that ? Just think , you will have the questions for one of your exams over a week before the exam !

You should also feel free to use the comments function of this blog to share , or debate , your ideas with fellow classmates regarding the answers to these questions . The blog extends our classroom by providing a common resource for on going learning twenty-four hours a day and seven days a week .  

Please also be aware that in addition to the chapter CTQs , I will occasionally be posting links to some supplemental  /  additional outside readings and videos that will generate CTQs on the CTEs . If there are supplemental / additional outside readings , the CTQs for those readings and videos will also be included in these posts . By the way , this post for chapter one includes some of those supplemental outside readings . See CTQs twelve and thirteen below and the links to the readings .

Please note that some of the CTQs are positioned as “ evaluate this statement “ and can also serve as debate topics . You will note on the class calendar ( see the class website ) , that I have listed an activity for some days titled CTQ Forums . On those days we will spend a few minutes in debate on these topics .

While I am on the debate topic , please also note that the “ Cliches Of Socialism To Ponder “ statements will be included in these blog posts just to get you thinking . While we might discuss / debate them in the CTQ Forum as well , but they will not show up as CTQs .

One last word and warning on these CTQs . While a CTQ might not show up on a chapter CTE , it  still might show up on the CTE semester final . So , don’t take any of these CTQs lightly .

Never hesitate to ask questions if you have them !!
